NEWI - New England Weapon Industries - is a arms manufacturing company based in Hartford Conneticut. Formed in 1916 it manufactured arms for the allied powers during the Great War. As the conflict drew to an inconclusive end the company switched from producing military arms as the need died down and began producing for civilian use.
The company is very locally based, selling primarily throughout the Hartford, Bridgeport, and Providence area. Lacking ambition, NEWI's financial state deteriorated forcing them to sell their properties in Bridgeport, which saved them to a point.
Come 1975 and the current year in Precipice, NEWI is having issues staying afloat and is out of date. Thus beginning their production of the NWP-77 - a pistol - and the NWR-77 - a rifle - in order to try and stay competitive.
