Basic Overview[]

The Republic of Liberia is an Ex-United States colony in Africa set up for freed African-American slaves in the 1800s and has long since been backed by the United States in its work in Africa. However, as America's isolationism grew and Africa got crowded by the Major European powers, Liberia found itself alone on a continent of superpowers. When the great war broke out, Liberia was about to enter the war on the side of England and France. However, native rebellions that plagued the nation since its creation continued to keep the military tied up, keeping Liberia out of the war. Internal wars were the major problem of Liberia since 1912-1920 and Liberia could not turn to the US for help.
Liberia was forced to work alone in building their economy and military in a attempt to keep up with their European neighbors and natives who seeked freedom from their oppression from Americo-Liberians. While Liberia could not keep up Militarily with Europe, their economy started to flourish from the massive wealth of resources in the nation. Rubber and Iron dominated the Industry and Liberia quickly became one of the worlds largest exporters of raw materials. The diamond industry started up during the 1960s and since the United Nations never existed, it never banned the export of Diamonds. Liberian Cargo ships now sail the seas with diamonds in their cargo hold.
As the United States cut of contact with Liberia to complete their Isolationist Policy, Liberia was further forced to develop on their own. In 1959, The First Independently produced Liberian Weapon, The BR-20, was developed. Though not on par with the French FAMAS or the American M16A2, it was designed specifically for combat in Liberia's climate and environment. It was meant to for national defense and combating the native rebels. In 1973, when another uprising was put down with quick efficiency, President William R. Tolbert, Jr proposed a new law that made all races in Liberia equal, taking inspiration from the Civil rights movement in the USA. In 1975, the law official took effect and integration programs took effect. Its been a slow and steady process and it has years to go before the centuries of hatred fade away.
